Gossamer Gear’s Fast Kumo 36 Fastpack

This will not be a biased review. I love my Fast Kumo Fastpack and wear it exclusively on day hikes unless weather conditions are poor (wet / snowy). I would buy again, and recommend the pack highly.

Since a Mariposa is my backpacking pack, another Gossamer Gear pack made sense – things were similar. I find the Fast Kumo a better pack and would try to use on even short overnights in right conditions.

What I really like

The harness is more like a trail runner vest so it hugs without bouncing around but doesn’t hug too tight. With the right load size, I am never ‘pack sore’ at the end of long 25-30 mile day. The fast belt and pouches work fine as well, and I bought a separate fast belt to replace standard Yar pack belt.

Pocket space is ample on shoulder straps as well as side pockets. Back pouch expands to insane size if needed.

Interior space is way more than needed.

What I wish was different

Not much.

First, the size is just 10 l more than I want / need. I could get by happily with a Fast Kumo 26 / 28.

Second, I sometimes struggle getting water bottles out of side pockets – I do not use single use plastic bottles so bottle size is a factor.
