8-01-23, a sturgeon moon

Last night’s full moon, per the Farmers’ Almanac, was a sturgeon moon, and it was BIG. I hung out in what we call the “kiddie park” in an open field waiting for the moon to arrive.

Before the moon rose, however, the sky to the west reflected clouds and fire smoke (I think) which seemed odd as the fires are to the east.

Moonrise

Looking around 120 degrees southeast, the sturgeon moon slowly showed through the trees.

After a bit, only the treetops hung on to the moon.

Then, big, bright and just another full moon.

This being August 2023, there is a Blue Moon at the end of the month.
