Spencer Butte between fog layers

A typical fall sky with fog layers and heavy unstable air greeted me atop Spencer Butte each time at the top. Fall is here, and winter is coming

The Route

I started the hike later than normal around 8:00 to have breakfast with my partner before their work. From Fox Hollow TH to Spencer top and down to S. Willamette TH and back to Spencer top; then, down to N. Willamette TH and back to Spencer top on way back to Fox Hollow.

Traffic & Conditions

There was not that many humans on the trail. However, there were two parties of 2 who were REALLY loud. Couldn’t wait for them to leave the trail.

Trail conditions were perfect. Just a bit wet from recent rains so softer than Spencer / Ridgeline can be when dry. I wore water proof shoes though they were not needed.

The sun tried to come out with blue sky but just couldn’t …

Cascade Raptor Center & Kirby

Stopped at Cascade Raptor Center before ending at the car. They provide blue garbage bags with QR code stickers for you to fill with empty bottles / cans and drop off at Bottle Stop for $ donation to Cascade Raptor Center.

I also got to spend some time with Kirby … she was all puffed up for winter.

Photo is from CRC – I don’t take photos of captives unless only way … they too deserve some privacy.
