Cloudy sunrise on Pre’s Trail

ByMichael Goatbells October 2, 2025October 2, 2025

When you live in Eugene and you need a good outdoor walk, but you do NOT want to walk on cement … Pre’s Trail. I went around 10 miles this morning leaving home around 6:00 and returning at 9:00; the key – 8 miles on bark dust! (feet cushions)

Those soft trails were so welcome after Tuesday’s Ridgeline on gravel – my feet were happy.

Rain threatened at first but as the sun rose, things got better. A nutria, a kingfisher, and several herons appeared before enough camera light. But, the wood ducks were later. (photo is a bit off, but the duck’s colors amazing)

Another heron was fishing (I think) but why standing in the fast-moving Willamette River shallows I could not understand.

Along the millrace, the contrast of objects, plants, water and sky …

Much of the trail goes between that mill race and a large meadow …

Unstable, changing weather patterns in Willamette Valley in October – just what you’d expect.
