Metolius River trail – downriver
From Pine Rest campground and my May Day Camp Sherman car camping spot, the first day hike started after setting up campsite around 09:00 April 30. Weather was perfect for the season with clear skies and little wind.
The Route
From Pine Rest CG, the route went downriver on the east side to the Fish Hatchery, and then swapped to the west until trail ends. Turn around and repeat. The recorded track was 1-way only as I forgot to turn on.
Trail conditions were perfect imho – soft, not dusty and little to 0 muddy spots. Water other than from the river didn’t exist – even at the Hatchery water trickled out – plan ahead for a long day.
Everybody on the water!
Seemed like everybody was on the water if they could be – big ones, little ones, feathered ones and ones with lifejackets.
Surprise
Just past the Hatchery, huge pipes were in place to help move tiny fish into the river – I hadn’t seen this before. That pipe must be 8″ diameter.
