While away on a tourist vacation, the Linton Creek Fire exploded in 3 Sisters Wilderness on September 8 (US FS notice). As of 9-11, the closures were wide-spread and the fire burning a beautiful area around Linton Meadows (my 2023 hike in the area). Fire permitter is ~27 miles. Today the rains came and maybe more next week to help out, but the damage is surely done.
My 3 Sisters Ramble in late August walked just a few miles to the east, and Obsidian TH is closed.
Looking at GaiaGPS, the location of the fire is just horrific – a beautiful spot.
Here is the closure map from USFS found via PCTA.
If you blow out some and look at the fires in Central Oregon … breaks my heart; just a horror between Diamond Lake and Mt Jefferson.
I heard today on NPR that roughly 1.9 million acres have burnt in OR in 2024 – so far. Here’s a table of the fires.
